The National Museum in Krakow was the first national art collecting institution, established in 1879. The Museum's collections range from archeological artifacts to contemporary artists.
As its image was that of an established, but outdated, the Museum decided to announce a competition for identity restyling to make it more contemporary and easier to replicate in various methods of print production.
Additionally, the new identity had to organize visual identity of the Museums' departments, tightening their relation to the main brand.
The suggested restyling was based on using the negative space of the existing mark. Consistent placement of the new symbol in the upper left corner and thus complementing the figure ensures continuity in brand relevance.
From various methods of organizing items, numeric code provided the best functionality and universality. Because of Museum's rich heritage, roman numerals were chosen to easily distinguish the subsidiary institutions.
